Public warned against scam phone calls

Manama, Jan. 18 (BNA): Director-General of Anti-corruption, and Economic and Electronic Security has called upon the public to be cautious of phone calls, messages or emails informing them that they have won prizes. He urged them to avoid providing any personal or bank information before referring the matter to the concerned authorities. He warned in response to many cases the department received recently of people from various nationality who had exploited the personal and bank information of their victims. He said that those persons used the information to illegally get money through modern technologies. He said that the public should call the hotline 992 short after receiving such calls and make sure to not provide information about their bank accounts or the numbers of the bank cards.
