Public COVID-19 vaccine rollout accelerated to rural aimags
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Starting May 3, Sunday, the public vaccine rollout has been intensified to cover residents in rural aimags of the country. On this day, consignments of additional 93,000 doses of vaccines against coronavirus were sent to 11 aimags from Ulaanbaatar city under security escort.
Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene, Deputy Prime Minister S.Amarsaikhan, Minister of Health S.Enkhbold and Minister of Finance B.Javkhlan witnessed the event to dispatch the vaccines to rural regions, where 808,284 people aged between 18 and 50 and 305,950 aged above 50 are residing in.
The public vaccine rollout in the rural regions was launched on May 1 to vaccinate 50-plus year old group. Currently, the vaccination is underway in Umnugobi, Bayankhongor, Khovd, Arkhangai, Gobisumber, Umnugobi, Orkhon, Darkhan-Uul, Tuv, Bulgan, Sukhbaatar, Khentii Gobi-Altai, Dundgobi, Dornogobi, Uvurkhangai, Khentii and Gobi-Altai aimags. The government is aiming to fully vaccinate its residents in 21 aimags by July 2021 with priority given to those above 50 years old. More vaccines will be delivered to other isolated regions as reported by the Cabinet’s Press Office.
As of May 2, Sunday, a total of 947,529 people have received the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19, equal to 45.8 percent of the nationwide vaccination target – 2,067,292 adult populations– 60 percent of the total population of Mongolia. In addition, 459,063 people or 21.8 percent of the vaccination target have gotten their second shots.
