President Zhaparov takes part in work of 77th session of ESCAP via videoconference

Bishkek, April 26, 2021. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov took part today in the work of the 77th session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the UN, which is being held in the format of a videoconference.
The press service of the Kyrgyz president said that in his speech he noted that its a great honor for him to speak at the opening of the 77th session of ESCAP.
In his speech Zhaparov said that in this difficult period for all mankind, ESCAP faced with a very important task - to work out solutions to strengthen economic cooperation in the region during a pandemic on the basis of the “better than it was” principle.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused serious problems in international trade around the world, including in the Asia-Pacific region.
This jeopardized the further full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Most developing countries have lost a significant portion of their income. And the resources that they have are forced to direct to eliminate the consequences of the pandemic.
Last year, during the Political Forum on Sustainable Development, Kyrgyzstan presented its first National Voluntary Review of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
This report has been compiled with the impact of COVID-19 on the implementation of these goals. It also reflects areas where we need international support.
In this regard, we hope that ESCAP will continue to pay close attention to the further achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals,’ he said.
President Zhaparov also noted that Kyrgyzstan welcomes the support of ESCAP through the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia.
“The Kyrgyz Republic needs access to ports in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic oceans.
Consequently, Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting foreign investors to the country. We are actively working to improve investment and trade policies. Our main goal is to create favorable conditions for doing business, to ensure the protection of the rights of entrepreneurs and investors.
In a pandemic, we need not to create obstacles and new barriers, but to cooperate as much as possible in order to develop trade and improve the living standards of the population,” the Kyrgyz president concluded his speech wishing the participants further fruitful work and success in achieving our common goals.
