President Zhaparov congratulates Kyrgyzstanis on Ak Kalpak Day

Bishkek, March 5, 2021 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov congratulated people of Kyrgyzstan on the Day of Ak Kalpak, his press service said. In his address to the nation, the Kyrgyz leader noted that ak kalpak is one of the national values of the Kyrgyz people. “Throughout history, our people have always respected and revered the national dress, especially headdresses. Undoubtedly, the ak kalpak, revered by our ancestors, is a treasure trove of national art. Our wise and skillful mothers have created ak kalpak in a shape reminiscent of the snowy peaks of mountain Kyrgyzstan. Each cut and embroidery has a deep philosophical meaning and corresponds to the age of the men,” the address says. The Kyrgyz leader reminded that the Day of Ak Kalpak was established by Resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) of June 29 2016 in order to preserve and respect the significance of the national headdress, support national traditions and awaken people's pride in Kyrgyz culture. “When we see our compatriots wearing ak kalpaks in foreign countries, at cultural and sporting events, it evokes a sense of movement of the Ala-Too Mountains, and its artistic beauty and quality make it stand out among other peoples. In 2019, it was included by UNESCO in the list of intangible cultural heritage of mankind, which is a great honor for our compatriots. It is gratifying that every year our national costumes are becoming more and more popular, delighting the world,” the congratulatory address says. In conclusion, President Zhaparov expressed confidence that the national values of the Kyrgyz people will be preserved for centuries. Annually on March 5, Kyrgyzstan celebrates the Day of Ak Kalpak, a holiday in honour of the national male headdress of Kyrgyz- ak kalpak.
