Premier congratulated on ITU Award

Manama, Aug.8(BNA): Housing Minister Basim bin Yacoub Al-Hamer extended congratulations to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Award which will be conferred on him during a celebration at the UN headquarters in New York on September 26, marking ITU’s 150th anniversary. He hailed the ITU honour as an international recognition of HRH the Premier's dedicated efforts to promote urban and sustainable development in Bahrain. Al-Hamer paid tribute to HRH the Premier for his far-sighted vision which earned Bahrain a place among developed countries which achieved landmark IT and telecommunication strides. In a statement today, he said that the Premier is recipient of the 2006 UN Special Citation Award of the Habitat Scroll of Honor, lauding his role in turning Bahrain into a key regional and international competitor in the IT and telecommunications sectors. He praised the role of the Premier in developing all sectors, commending the Government-led policies since the 1960s to promote social housing.
