PM Worries over Possible Second Wave

BANGKOK, Sept 1 (TNA) – Prime Minister and Defence Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha expressed his convern over a possible second wave of Covid-19, ordering tightened control along the border to prevent illegal entry of migrant workers. The prime minister said he ordered patrols be stepped up along the rivers, checkpoints set up on roads to deter illegal border crossings. Some schools in Kanchanaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan, bordering Myanmar are temporarily closed after students fell ill with high fever on Tuesday to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Gen. Prayut said those schools needed to close as precautionary measures, awaiting the disease investigation after some Myanmar entered the country through natural border passes without going through public health procedures. Although Thailand has had no local transmission for over three month, he said recurrence of the coronavirus outbreak was possible as seen in other countries. The government has prepared for a second wave in terms of hospital facilities, medical supplies and the contingency budget for joint vaccine development with other countries, he said. (TNA)
