PM offers 'chadar' at Ajmer sharif shrine

New Delhi, May 26 (PTI) A 'chadar' was offered today at the revered medieval shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer in the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan on behalf of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. India Government ministers V Narayanasamy and Sachin Pilot offered the 'chadar', the covering for the mausoleum of the saint, and prayers on behalf of Singh at the shrine in Ajmer Sharif at the 800th Urs or the annual gathering, marking the death of the Sufi saint. "Khwaja Sahib had respect for all religions, that's why his followers, irrespective of creeds, visit his shrine. Throughout his life, Khwaja Sahib emphasized on unity, brotherhood and mutual understanding," the Prime Minister said in his message. Singh also congratulated followers of the saint and prayed for the success of Urs celebrations in the message.
