Pledges of Qatari Charities to Darfur Total $141 mln

Doha, April 08 (QNA) -Pledges of Qatari charities to Darfur has totaled $141 mln at the International Donor Conference For Reconstruction and Development of Darfur. The pledges were announced at the conference by Qatar Charity, Sheikh Thani Bin Abullah for Humanitarian Services, Eid Charity, the Red Crescent Society Al Asmakh Charity and Sheikh Jassim Bin Jabor Charity. Ayed al Qahtani, director of Sheikh Thani Bin Abullah for Humanitarian Services said the agreements signed by the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice as well as the Justice and Equality movements encourage more contributions of donors to step up development efforts. Qatar Charity director , Mohamed al Ghamdi, meanwhile, said the charity's presence in Sudan dates back to 1994, expressing his backing of Qatar's efforts to contribute to peace and reconstruction in Darfur.
