Pioneering Bahraini writer honoured
Manama, Apr.24 (BNA): Bahraini author Dr. Amal Ibrahim Al-Zayani went down in history as the first woman to have written a book in the Kingdom’s cultural annals.
The veteran author wrote a book in 1973, titled "Bahrain: 1783-1973" in which she focused on analyzing the international relations and the developments which marked the Arabian Gulf region over around two centuries.
The Isa Cultural Centre (ICC) has hosted a ceremony in honour of the pioneering writer in recognition of her role as a trailblazer in enriching Bahrain’s intellectual life and promoting the cultural march.
"ICC Board of Trustees’ Chairman Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al-Khalifa patronized the ceremony as part of festivities marking the 2015 World Book and Copyright Day", said ICC Vice Chairman, Executive Director, Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa.
In a statement to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), he paid tribute to Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) for spearheading efforts to promote Bahraini women’s role.
He outlined the ICC new development plan to revisit Bahrain’s cultural and intellectual heritage and highlight the role of pioneering trailblazers who contributed to Bahrain’s march, affirming support to Bahraini woman.
Dr. Shaikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa addressed the ceremony stressing the ICC resolve to encourage creativity and the spirit of initiative, commending the honoree’s achievements legacy and contribution to Bahrain’s cultural and intellectual life.
Bahraini writer Dr. Mansour Sarhan’s new book titled "ICC National Library – A Cultural Milestone", was launched on the sidelines of the honouring ceremony. Dr. Al-Zayani also delivered a lecture outlining her experience as a writer.
