People in Thai South warned of flash floods

BANGKOK, December 9 (TNA) - The Meteorological Department has warned people living along the eastern coast of southern Thailand to be prepared for widespread scattered downpours with heavy falls and flash floods in some areas from December 9-12. The weather bureau said in a latest statement issued on Friday that people living near areas at risks, including hillsides and other low-lying zones, in Prachuab Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Songkhla, should particularly brace for heavy downpours and flash floods. According to the Meteorological Department, all trawlers in the Thai South should also beware of the heavy downpours and small boats should keep ashore over the next couple of days, when strong winds and waves, as high as 2-4 metres, are also expected in the Gulf of Thailand.
