Parliament-UNDP cooperation discussed

Manama, May 7 (BNA): First Deputy Speaker Ali Al Aradi stressed the significance of upgrading parliamentary business through training programmes benefiting from the expertise of ancient countries in the legislative field. MP Al Aradi said the Council of Representatives seeks to boost parliamentary cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) through holding training and development programmes for MPs and staff of the General Secretariat as well as supporting the community interaction project organized by the Council which is considered an impeccable step in boosting communication and interaction with citizens. The First Deputy Speaker remarks came as he met the Assistant UN Secretary-General Dr. Sima Bahouth, the UNDP's Regional Office Director in New York, and a delegation from the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), in the presence of the Council's Secretary-General Abdullah bin Khalaf Al-Dossary at the Council's General-Secretariat premises. The Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives welcomed the cooperation initiative with the UNDP of adopting training and development programmes and a series of lectures, workshops and training courses for parliamentarians. The UN delegation commended the Kingdom of Bahrain's experience as an example in the region and its efforts to conclude a joint cooperation agreement to boost parliamentary action in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
