Over 350 arrested for Euro 2012 gambling
BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - Thai police have arrested over 350 people in metropolitan areas on charges of football gambling since the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, known as Euro 2012, kicked off last Friday night.
Deputy Metropolitan Police Chief Police Major General Saroj Promcharoen, who heads a Euro 2012 gambling suppression centre, reported Tuesday that up to 352, out of 360 suspected football gamblers, had been arrested during the June 8-11 period, 16 of them were bookmakers and the rest were gamblers.
Police Major General Saroj said that the police also seized 77,700 baht in cash and betting slips valued at approximately 2.71 million baht.
The deputy metropolitan police chief said that some 45 per cent of the arrested football gamblers are 25-35 years old, and that there have been no police officers found involving in any football gambling so far. (TNA)
