Official visit of President Jeenbekov to Hungary

Bishkek, Sept. 30, 2020. /Kabar/. On Sept. 28-29, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov paid an official visit to Hungary. Upon arrival the Kyrgyz leader had an informal dinner with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. President Jeenbekov’s official visit began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Heroes’ Square in Budapest, where he paid tribute to the outstanding Hungarian figures and personalities who had contributed to the establishment of Hungarian statehood. Further, an official meeting ceremony of Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Viktor Orbán took place at Carmelite Palace, followed by negotiations in a narrow and extended format. As a result of bilateral negotiations, the sides have signed a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Hungary. The members of the two countries' delegations also signed a number of documents aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation. At the end of the meeting, Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Viktor Orbán made a statement to the press, where they noted the main results of the meeting, including an agreement to establish the Kyrgyz-Hungarian Development Fund with a credit line of $ 50 million, a twofold increase in quotas in Hungarian universities for Kyrgyz students and plans to open a direct flight on the Bishkek-Budapest route. The Kyrgyz leader also met with Speaker of Hungary’s National Assembly László Köver and President of the country János Áder, having discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation. The official visit of the head of the state continued with the ceremony of awarding the name of Kyrgyz writer Chyngyz Aitmatov to one of the squares of Budapest. Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony and President Jeenbekov delivered a speech and planted trees. The President, on his own behalf and on behalf of the people of Kyrgyzstan, expressed gratitude to the Hungarian people for giving the name of the great writer to this square, adding that this is another sign of respect for the bright memory of Chyngyz Aitmatov in Hungary. In Chyngyz Aitmatov square, President Jeenbekov also spoke with Kyrgyz students who study in Hungarian universities. The official visit of Sooronbay Jeenbekov was completed by visit to the Turkic Council representative office in Budapest together with PM of Hungary Viktor Orbán, where a photo exhibition dedicated to the works of Chyngyz Aitmatov was also organized. The Kyrgyz president arrived in Kyrgyzstan early in the morning of Sept. 30.
