Official: ictQatar to Reveal New Strategy for E-Government in Few Months

Doha, May 28 (QNA) - The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQatar) is developing the strategy of the integrated e-government in preparation to launch the "second generation" within the next few months, Assistant Secretary General at the ictQatar Hassan Jassim Al-Sayed has revealed. In remarks to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al-Sayed said that the new strategy of the e-government, expected to be completed within four months, will bring a quantum leap in the services provided by various ministries and government institutions to the public and will cope with the new requirements in the permanently advanced electronic field. Al-Sayed noted that the e-government strategy, first launched in 2007, will meet the expectations of the public through more open, flexible and advanced electronic services. He added that government bodies are currently more interested in providing their services through e-government and they are developing these services or regular basis in order to be more comprehensive and accurate. Al-Sayed highlighted that the e-government in Qatar is very advanced, and that is reflected by the global ranking it had obtained and by the numbers of daily and monthly transactions done through the government portal "Hukoomi". e-Government in Qatar was first launched in 2003. The planning process for i-Gov began three years later. Hukoomi was launched in 2008 and revamped in 2010, giving 24-hour access to all the government services and information that are needed to live and work in Qatar. Qatar has been recognized for advancements in e-government with the United Nations e-Government Survey, rising to number 27 in the rankings, a significant improvement from its previous ranking of 90 in 2010. The Survey also placed Qatar at number nine in the e-Participation index for 2012. (QNA)
