NTC Hails Qatar's Role during Libyan Revolution
Doha, January 28 (QNA) - Libyan Transition National Council (NTC) on Saturday highly appreciated the brave position the State of Qatar has taken in favour of the Libyan people against the atrocities and heinous crimes committed by Gaddafi' and his loyalists during the revolution that ousted the former Libyan Leader in August.
Speaking to Qatar news agency (QNA) on the sidelines of a seminar held to mark the first anniversary of the outbreak of the "Arab Spring", Mousa Al Kuni, Libyan NTC member expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, government and people of Qatar for their historic and heroic support of the just cause of the Libyan people.
“Qatar has given a lot to the Libyan revolution since the beginning, and has played a role that cannot be forgotten," added the Libyan official.
Al Kuni's visit to Qatar comes in response to an invitation by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage to take part in this seminar along with a number of prominent Arab countries from Tunisia, Egypt, Syria and Yemen.
The State of Qatar has played a major role in the liberation of the Libyan people in terms at the political, diplomatic and military levels.
In memory of the Libyan martyrs, an avenue in Doha was named after Libyan hero Omar Mukhtar who, for nearly 20 years, led native resistance to Italian colonization of Libya.
Estimates of deaths in the 2011 Libyan civil war vary with figures from 2,000 to 30,000 given between March 2 and September 8. Some of the killing "may amount to crimes against humanity" according to the United Nations Security Council and as of March 2011 is under investigation by the International Criminal Court. (QNA)
