NIHR's Civil, Political Rights committee holds meeting

Manama, Oct. 14 (BNA): The National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR)'s Civil, Political Rights Committee held its fifth meeting chaired by Jameela Suleiman and membership of Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel. The meeting discussed resumed discussion of the committee's views about the amending of some provisions of Bahrain's Nationality Law for the Year 1963 referred by the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, concluding a number of recommendations. The subject will be presented to the National Institution's president ahead of its referral to the Council of Representatives. The meeting also discussed the questionnaire referred by some researchers in Nottingham University regarding life incarceration penalty to collect the necessary information about the penalty and its correlation with national legislations in Bahrain, as well as a questionnaire referred to the committee by the Foreign Ministry regarding Human Rights Council Resolution 11/29 regarding the negative impact of irregularities on human rights enjoyment, seeking the opinion of the National Institution about best practices and measures to eliminate irregularities as well as investigation and protection of human rights.
