NIHR Vice President meets US Ambassador for Human Rights to Geneva

Geneva, Sept. 29 (BNA): Vice President of the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) Abdullah Ahmed Al-Derazi and Head of the Complaints and Monitoring Committee Maria Khouri met with the US Ambassador for Human Rights to Geneva Keith Harper, on the sidelines of NFHR delegation's participation in the 30th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The NFHR Vice President gave a briefing on the foundation, its goals and duties as well as proposals to harmonize national legislations with the international human rights covenants, as per law 26 for 2014 concerned with its establishment. The Head of the Complaints and Monitoring Committee highlighted the mechanism of receiving complaints and ways of handling them. The US ambassador commended the role of NFHR in Bahrain, stressing his country's readiness to provide all needed assistance by holding training programmes and transferring expertise to boost the foundation's role in fostering human rights. The meeting was attended by NFHR Assistant Secretary General Yasser Ghanim Shahin, who is the foundation's Acting Secretary General, and member of the US Permanent Mission to Geneva Tabitha Snowbarger.
