New policy on development in Thailand's deep South adopted

BANGKOK, February 11 (TNA) - Thailand’s National Security Council (NSC) has adopted a new policy on the administration and development of the country's insurgency-plagued deep South, which, if finally approved by the Thai Cabinet, will be implemented from later this year until 2014. The NSC's newly-proposed policy, focused on getting rid of causes of violence at all levels in the Thai southernmost region, was a resolution of the NSC's latest meeting in Bangkok on Thursday, chaired by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra herself. NSC Secretary-General Police General Wichean Potephosree said that the proposed policy will guide the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) and the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre (SBPAC) for their actions on development projects, peaceful solutions and the rule of laws to bring about peace and order in the Thai restive South. According to the NSC chief, the proposed policy will be raised before the Cabinet's next weekly meeting on February 22 for further consideration and action. (TNA)
