National Seismic Monitoring Station inaugurated

Manama, May 18 (BNA): National Seismic Monitoring Station (NSMS) today was inaugurated in the presence of Acting Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, Ahmed Al-Namah, UAE National Center of Meteorology and Seismology's CEO Dr. Abdullah Al-Mindouse, and a number of government officials. Al-Namah said the NSMS has been established to meet the ministry's interest in uplifting services provided in the metrological field, in the wake of the increasing seismic threats witnessed by the region. He added NSMS has emerged a result of Bahrain-UAE cooperation. It's been connected with UAE counterpart station to enhance collecting information required for monitoring earthquakes activities by the use of a highly developed technical system. He explained that according to the NSMS information available, Bahrain Meteorological Department will provide the National Disaster Management Committee with all related activities taking place in the region. It will also contribute to bolstering cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization, and with Bahrain municipalities bodies in respect of construction of building.
