MTT announces new regulations for licensures

Manama, Oct. 11(BNA): Further to the Ministerial Decree Number 7 for the Year 2015 issued by Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed, regarding the Executive Regulations for the new Post Law number 49 for the Year 2014, the minister announced that the new regulations will cover a number of new licenses for companies operating in the post sector, including Bahrain Post.
These licenses now cover three main categories: Local courier and express operator licenses, international courier and express operator licenses, and licenses for distribution of newspapers, magazines and promotional materials.
In addition, MTT has set up a new directorate, the Postal Sector Regulation Directorate, which is the official regulatory entity responsible for regulating all operations and services in the sector, issuing licenses, monitoring service levels to ensure excellence in service, and placing policies for the development of the sector to increase its competitiveness and ensure that it meets international industry best practice.
MTT conducted numerous meetings to consult with private sector stakeholders in the industry in order to ensure that the operators are familiar with the new regulations and licenses, and to obtain their input into the new procedures that will be implemented. In addition, ongoing coordination was conducted with government partners including the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to update the commercial registration types in accordance with the new post regulations, and with the Labor Market Regulatory Authority regarding non-Bahraini employees in the industry.
