More than QR Billion for Implementing Road Safety Strategy in Qatar

Doha, January 13 (QNA) - The cost for the first five years of the implementation of the road safety strategy in Qatar is estimated at about one billion and two hundred million Qatari riyals, said Yousuf Al Emadi, deputy chairman of the National Committee for Traffic Safety. Eng. Al Emadi was speaking at a joint press conference with Brigadier General Mohammad al-Maliki, the National Committee for Traffic Safety Committee Secretary after the launch of the strategy. "The estimated cost is one billion and two hundred million riyals and are subject to change to lower for all stakeholders in the implementation of the strategy," Eng. Al Emadi said adding that "this figure is not large or high for five years, and the size of the existing plans in the strategy.” He pointed out to the strategy aims to develop a safe highway to ensure the safety of the road users through action plans and joint efforts of the state's institutions. He said that the responsibility is not on the Ministry of the Interior or the Public Works Authority, but also is a shared responsibility, and a concerted effort is required of all , and that all must work together to reach the desired goal. He also stressed that the objective of the strategy is to reduce the number of deaths and severe injuries on the roads, and action plans of up to about 220 action plan, distributed to 13 government departments of which the Ministry of the Interior will hold the brunt of them, followed by the Public Works Authority, and the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, and the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, followed by the rest of the bodies. Emadi added that within each team body, completely full-time experts to consider the role of the Authority and the preparation of the Action Plan and the preparation of contracts, budgets and special projects, until the implementation of the plan. He stressed that supervision will be conducted directly by a team of managers, formed by HE the Minister of State for Interior Affairs HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, and headed by Brigadier Mohammad al-Maliki. The team's role is to follow up with state bodies the implementation of the plans in order to overcome obstacles facing the implementation of action plans. (QNA)
