More CCTVs to be installed in Phuket
BANGKOK, June 26 (TNA) - The tourism sector in Thailand's southern Andaman Phuket province has called for local authorities to install more close circuit televisions (CCTVs) throughout the resort island to boost security and confidence among locals and international visitors.
Methee Tanmanatrakul, an advisor to the Southern Thai Hotel Association, Somboon Jirayus, President of the Phuket Tourist Association and Paiboon Upatising, President of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO), made the call when meeting with Phuket Governor Tri Akaradecha on Monday to discuss security measures for the local tourism sector.
The Phuket tourism sector has urged the local government to install additional 10,000 CCTVs with a budget of some two billion baht throughout the southern resort island, apart from some existing 2,250 ones to monitor any untoward incident and to boost confidence among local people and international tourists.
Two robbers attacked two Australian female tourists in Phuket last week, stabbing one of the tourists to death. (TNA)
