More areas in Bangkok declared at risk zones for flooding
BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) declared on Tuesday more areas in the capital's Bueng Kum District as heavy flood-prone zones where a close watch for inundation prevention and control is now needed.
Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra announced that people living in Bueng Kum's Nuan Chan Sub-district, from Soi Nuan Chan 52, 54, 56, 58, 60, Soi Navamin 50, 64 and 94 and Soi Ramintra 38, as well as Soi Navamin 75 in Klong Kum Sub-district should closely follow up the updated water situation and should move their belonging to high grounds as a precaution.
The Bangkok governor, meanwhile, reported that water levels in the Maha Sawadi Canal in the city's western side have remained high but appeared to be more stable, causing runoffs in nearby Salaya locality in Bangkok's suburban Nakhon Pathom to keep flowing into the capital; while water levels in the lower part of the Hok Wa Canal in the city's eastern side have receded by two centimetres, resulting in a drop of some 10-centimetre-floodwater in Don Mueang area.
The governor urged Bangkokians to refrain from rafts made from non-recyclable foam and mischievous firecrackers during the traditional Loy Krathong Festival later this week to reduce garbage and casualties in the capital amid the ongoing flooding crisis. (TNA)
