Mongolia reaches record number of daily COVID-19 cases, 11,651 in total

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. It was reported at the daily COVID-19 press briefing by the Ministry of Health for April 6, Tuesday, Mongolia has hit the highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, recording a total of 831 new coronavirus cases after PCR tests conducted at 23 laboratories nationwide. In specific, 731 newly cases were confirmed in Ulaanbaatar city with another one hospital-acquired case as well as 99 cases were detected in rural regions, including Arkhangai, Bayankhongor, Bulgan, Khovd, Selenge, Uvurkhangai, Darkhan-Uul, Tuv, Khentii, Orkhon and Khuvsgul aimags. As a result, the nationwide infection tally is now 11,651, with the cases registered in the capital city reached 8,906. In the last 24 hours, 79 coronavirus patients were recovered and discharged from hospital, making the number of COVID-19 recoveries 6,010. As of April 6, a total of 2,480 coronavirus patients are being treated at hospitals in Ulaanbaatar city and in the rural aimags. The National Center for Communicable Diseases also reported one new COVID-19 related death, raising the country's death toll to 13. During the press briefing, Press Secretary of the Health Ministry B.Uuganbayar said that the number of daily infection started growing around 10 days after the last lockdown ended (February 23, 2021) and a study shows that if current situation persists, daily coronavirus cases could surpass 1,000.
