Ministry of Interior Sponsored Students Graduate from US Universities
Doha, May 20 (QNA) - Twenty-one Qatari students on scholarships from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) have graduated in various engineering disciplines with distinction from different universities in the United States.
The Qatari students took courses in engineering disciplines like fire engineering, electrical engineering, communications, electronic engineering and computer science, the ministry said in a media statement.
This batch of 21 students is the largest number to receive scholarships under the ministry's initiative to prepare and qualify the pool of human resources, the statement added.
Earlier this year in February, six students graduated in the disciplines of computer and fingerprinting, cyber-crime and fire engineering.
Earlier this month, 14 Qatari students graduated on May 13, from the Faculty of Fire Safety Engineering at University of New Haven America. Four from this group passed with distinction with honours.
Student Mishal Mohammed Al Mutawa from the university received the 'Best Engineer in 2012' award and his name was placed in the honours board of the university.
This scholarship programme was part of the ministry's 2011-2016 initiative and its development plan that focuses on developing capable Qatari cadres in all areas of its specializations.
To this end, the Ministry has given the opportunity to Qatari cadres to complete further studies in their area of specialization.
This initiative received a good response since there was an increase in the number of students receiving scholarships at different academic levels - graduation, post-graduation and doctoral studies - at the local and international universities, the ministry said.
Mentioning about its partnership with Universities at the Qatar Foundation, the ministry said, "In 2011-2012 academic year, 113 candidates received MoI scholarship to study in international universities.
"Apart from this, the Ministry has a partnership with a number of universities at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) such as Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Texas to select a number of students studying those specializations required by the Ministry to be on Ministry's scholarship. The ministry also co-operates with the Qatar University to recruit students as required and reserves 10 seats annually for higher studies." (QNA)
