Ministry of Culture Celebrates "Nafela" Night
Doha, July 05 (QNA) - The summer tent hosted by the Youth Activities and Events Department at Qatar's Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage has celebrated the "Nafela" night mid-Sha'aban (the eighth month of the Islamic calendar), in attendance of a large audience.
The celebrations boasted a number of shows introducing the night as part of the national heritage in the Gulf. The tradition recounts how families in the "Al -Fereej" (neighborhood) would prepare for the holy month of Ramadan with specific food and fast on that special day, heritage researcher Khalifa al-Sayyed said.
"Nafela" illustrates the closeness between the members of the Al -Fereej", unlike the modern times, the researcher remarked valuing the role of the Ministry of Culture in reviving popular legacies for children and youth.
The ceremony's musical productions dazzled onlookers as children dressed in old-style Qatari costumes chanting hymns and songs for the occasion.
The tent includes culture, sports, religion, and entertainment, Head of Activities and Youth Camps at the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage Nasser al-Jabri told Qatar News Agency (QNA), adding that one of the Ministry's priorities is the revitalization of heritage.
Activities will extend into Ramadan also in coordination with Qatar's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs to present a religious program gathering centers and clubs all in one place, he explained.
Events continue at the tent until August 5th with more activities; the "Qatar, Civilization and Culture" program will be presented today with competitions and traditional food as well as a myriad of activities including a section for photography, a corner for protected animals, theatre, paintings, poetry, and setups by the Arab, Sudanese, Egyptian, and Palestinian communities.
