Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Calls for Investing on Building Workers' Accommodation

Doha, January 17 (QNA) - HE Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani has called upon the real estate companies and the businessmen to focus their investments on building workers' accomodation as per the international standards. Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony for the second phase of "Barwa Al Baraha, HE Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning said such a project is a leading one since it dealt with a model of accommodation for the workers as it provides plots for workers accommodations in a critical time for the state in view of the large the number of workers available under the mammoth projects under construction in qatar. Touching on the number of workforce deported from doha after prohibiting the dwelling of workers inside the family populated areas, HE Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani said the number is constantly increases and the law is clearly being enforced. Elaborating HE the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning said the ministry has started investigating into the complaints offered on violation of such a law noting however that the law provies a month-period to transfer those workers from inside these areas. HE the minister has underlined that the state has provided plots of land to build workers accomodation covering five areas pointing out that the ministry the ministry had withdrawn certain lands from the users for the lack of seriousness in the establishment of designated areas for the workers, explaining that the state did what it should have done in this context. It is worth to mention that the Law No./15/ for the year 2010 on the prohibition of housing groups of workers within the areas of housing of families came into force last November, 2011 and all municipalities at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning started for the application of the law.
