Minister inspects flood prevention measures at Bangkok's industrial site

BANGKOK, November 8 (TNA) - Thai Defence Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa inspected flood prevention measures at the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate in the outskirts of Bangkok on Tuesday afternoon, as floodwater has been approaching the area. General Yuthasak expressed his concerns over mud dykes erected in the area and ordered parties concerned, including a squad of army troops, to take good care of the dykes to ensure its strength and height in order to effectively protect the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate from floods. General Yuthasak also suggested that water hyacinth and other weeds be cleared from adjacent canals to smoothen water drainage in the area. Meanwhile, several manufacturing plants inside the Lat Krabang Industrial Estate have reportedly erected their own sandbag dykes or floodwalls as high as some two metres and prepared evacuation plans if floodwater on the Chalong Krung Road in front of the industrial site increased to as high as some 20 centimetres; while Lat Krabang Industrial Estate's authorities have sought for more support of water pumps from the government and the Thai military.
