The Minister of French Armies Arrives in Baghdad

Baghdad / NINA /- The Minister of the French Armies, Florence Parly, arrived last night in Baghdad to express her support for the new Iraqi government facing a political, economic and health crisis, in the second visit by a French minister to Iraq within six weeks. The French Ministry of Armies stated in a press statement: “Parly will hold talks this morning, Thursday, with the commander of the international coalition forces to combat ISIS, the Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, and another meeting will be held this afternoon with Defense Minister Juma Inad Al-Jubouri.” Parly will focus during the visit on the major issues discussed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian during his visit weeks ago, from combating ISIS to respecting the sovereignty of Iraq. Parley will discuss in her talks with Iraqi officials the Turkish interventions on Iraqi lands, especially the air strikes against the PKK in Iraqi Kurdistan. The ministry added, "We have moved to a worrying level of infringing on Iraqi sovereignty," reaffirming "France's full support for Iraqi sovereignty within a complex regional balance." In the field of combating terrorism, France constantly warns the international community about the need not to reduce the preparedness in the face of ISIS, after the American-Iranian disputes since the beginning of the year and the Covid-19 epidemic crisis brought this issue to second place. The ministry said, "We are observing elements that indicate that ISIS is secretly reorganizing its ranks, which were not expected, but which constitute a real challenge to Iraq." / End
