Minister of Culture Opens Waqif Arts Centre

Doha, August 04 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari opened on Friday evening Souq Waqif Arts Centre in a special celebration held at the traditional market following the renovation of the centre, which is one of cultural radiation centre Doha. HE the Minister wrote brief remarks on the honorary register in which he said "In this blessed night of Ramadan this centre is opened in its new look. For us in the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the centre has a rich heritage of many exhibitions displayed during celebrations marking Doha as the capital of Arab culture and its new shape it gives a fresh momentum for further production and innovation" . After the centre's opening ceremony, Dr. Al Kuwari said the centre is one of the tributaries of art in Doha and is expected to achieve its objectives and strategy in the service of the Qatari art, stressing the importance and necessity of cooperation and coordination between the cultural and art bodies to achieve the ultimate goal of the state, which is the continuation of the civilizational and cultural role of Doha in the Arab region and at the international level. For his part, Souq Waqif Director Mohammed Al-Salem said that the opening of the centre is part of the market's strategy to contribute to supporting the Qatari artistic movement and as a new tributary to visual culture, pointing out the centre will assume special attention to plastic art, Arabic calligraphy and sculpture. He explained that centre is particularly important because it is located in Souq Waqif , which is a major tourist and visitors attraction in Qatar. It also meets the need of professional and amateur artists to communicate with the community in this vital place. Moreover, Al-Salim said, the centre has put it upon himself to improve plastic art by using the latest methods and techniques.(QNA)
