Minister of Awqaf Opens Arabic Calligraphy Exhibition

Doha, April 01 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Awqaf (Endowments) and Islamic Affairs Dr. Ghaith bin Mubarak Al- Kuwari opened today an exhibition of Arabic calligraphy at Moza bint Mohammed for Qur'an and Da'wa as part of "Adkar" campaign, launched by centre ealry in March. The exhibition aims to highlight the aesthetics of the language of the the Holy Qur'an through the decoration of some Quranic verses and sayings that are designed in a variety of calligraphy types of which some were inspired by the spirit of temporary art. The exhibition displayed works of Syrian calligrapher Obeida Al-Banki, the calligrapher who wrote the Mushaf of Qatar, Qatari artist Wadha Al-Suleiti, Hala Saleh Al-Sayyid from Syria, Mona Khalifa Al-Kubaisi, Mohammed Salem Al Mahmoud, Fatima Ali, Laila Al-Fuhaid, Maryam Al-Fuhaid, Rawdha Bujsoum and Sheikha Al-Kuwari (from Qatar), along with the works of Mary Catherine from France and Harumi Horekoumi from Japan. In a statement following a tour of the exhibition, HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs said such exhibitions constitute a means of achieving the mission of the ministry, especially with regard to interest in the Holy Qur'an and the Arabic language, in addition to promoting Islamic and aesthetic values. He pointed out that the exhibition comes in the context of the Adkar campaign launched by Sheikha Moza bint Mohamed Cetre for Qur'an and Da'wa at the state level to revive the traditions of remembrance and reflection in the Qur'an.(QNA)
