Merkel Lauds Qatar's Commitment to Confronting Climate Change Challenges
Berlin, July 16 (QNA) -The German Chancellor Angela Merkel took part on Monday in the third Petersburg Climate Summit which was co-chaired by HE Abdullah Bin Hamad Al Attiyah, president of Qatar's Administrative Control and Transparency Authority and chairman of the COP 18/CMP 8 , as well as the German Minister of Environment Peter Peter Altmaier.
At the outset of the meeting, HE Al Attiyah conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani to Merkel and invited her to take part in the climate conference COP 18/CMP 8 which will be held in Doha in November. He also thanked Merkel for her participation in the meeting.
The German chancellor asked HE Al Attiyah to convey his greetings to HH the Emir and thanked him for inviting her to the Doha conference . She also lauded Qatar's hosting of the conference and its commitment to confronting the challenges emanating from climate change.
She said that the opportunities provided by the Doha conference should not be wasted. She also noted her government's strategy for climate change, namely marketing renewable energy through government support, distributing energy to keep abreast of growth, rationalizing consumption and encouraging green economy.
The meeting was attended by HE Qatar's ambassador to Germany Abdel Rahman Mohamed Al Khulaifi and the delegation accompanying HE Al Attiyah. (QNA)
