Mathematical Olympiad Part Of SEC's Policy for Encouraging Competition - Al Sulaiti

Doha , February 25 (QNA) - Director of the Evaluation Institute at the Supreme Education Council (SEC) Dr. Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti stressed Monday that SEC was always keen to encourage distinguished children in all academic subjects to participate in regional and international competitions in order to upgrade their educational capabilities. Al Sulaiti was speaking at a press conference to discuss Qatar's hosting of the GCC-wide Mathematical Olympiad from April 1-4. . GCC students will compete in the competition, while a delegation from Yemen will be involved as an observer. She said that the Olympiad is held regularly each year in one of the member countries. She noted that the Olympiad will help create a suitable environment to encourage competition among students. One of the most important benefits of the Olympiad is that italso helps discover talented students adding that paying more attention on mathematics in particular can have positive impact on a country's development. On the preparations of the Qatari team, Al Sulaiti said six students have been chosen from among 42 students who competed to enter the team . They are now all well prepared for the competition and that the students are ready to represent their country, she added . She stressed the importance of hosting the Olympiad because it reflects Qatar's status as a country that grants first priority to education. She added that the SEC had set up a committee to prepare well for hosting the competition. (QNA)
