Mass cycling from Thailand to Vietnam

NAKHON PHANOM, Oct 2 (TNA) - A large number of cyclists on Sunday left Nakhon Phanom border province for Laos and Vietnam to promote tourism and strengthening relations between the three countries. Nakhon Phanom governor Somchai Witdamrong presided over the ceremony where cyclist left the Naga Statue, the new landmark in the provincial seat and crossed the Thai-Lao Third Friendship Bridge and headed toward Khammouane town in Laos. From there, they will ride along the Highway 12 to Vietnam. Total distance from going and returning is approximately 600 kilometres and the journey will take them six days. The event is jointly organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and several other related agencies. Nakhon Phanom will organise the annual Illuminate Boat Procession Festival or Lai Ruea Fai Festival between October 9 – 17 celebrating the end of Buddhist Lent Day. It is projected that a large number of tourists will visit the province during the period. (TNA)
