Major job cuts in Kazakhstan national companies

Kazakhstan, Astana, Feb.3 / Trend T.Nurmagambetov/ The national oil company of Kazakhstan, KazMunayGas is going to cut its workforce by 25 percent and the National Railway Company Kazakhstan Temir Joly by 17 percent, chairman of the National Welfare Fund of Kazakhstan Samruk Kazina, Umirzak Shukeyev said at a board meeting on Friday. "Exploration and production of KazMunayGas has cut its workforce by 50 per cent in Astana and KazMunayGas by 25 per cent. Kazakhstan Temir Joly has already made similar reductions by 15 per cent. Further layoffs by another 17 per cent are in prospect," Mr Shukeyev said. This was necessary to get rid of secondary assets. "Of course we are not talking about some kind of manufacturing reduction, rather it is a reduction to increase efficiency and eliminate duplication of functions," Mr Shukeyev said. He noted that it will allow the heads of each structural unit to clearly see what area is their responsibility. "Evaluation of employees will be made only on professional qualities. We will intensify the work of the board. Efficiency of the head of the company should include specific indicators. They have to show that they are really focused on solving important problems. Managing directors of the Fund should be evaluated by performance and the contribution to the development of a group of companies " Mr Shukeev said. Earlier, President Nursultan Nazarbayev in his message to the people of Kazakhstan set a target to reduce the administrative burden of national companies. Do you have any feedback?
