Labour, social development minister receives UNCHR delegation

Manama, Feb. 16 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humdaidan on Tuesday met the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR)'s delegation currently visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain led by Middle East and North Africa (MENA) department director, Mohammed Ensour. The minister reviewed the ministry's programmes and activities in the various aspects of sustainable development, societal dialogue consolidation among the three partners of production, combating discrimination, completion of procedures to protect the workforce in line with the principles of justice and national law. the delegation was also briefed about the developmental programmes contributed by the government and aimed to provide all citizens dignified livelihood and community welfare. In the same context, the minister said the ongoing reforms initiated by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa constitute the main driver and the solid cornerstone whence the government works to protect and safeguard human rights, including workers' rights and the rights of other components in the community. He cited the country's quantum leap in terms of national legislations passed to protect workers' rights commensurate with international standards and emanating from the principles adopted by the kingdom to ensure justice and equality in its broader perspectives. The minister also reviewed the Kingdom's efforts in development of Bahraini families and the provision of dignified livelihood to all citizens, granting women's rights and economic empowerment, implementation of numerous initiatives aimed to benefit the elderly people and children as well as persons with special needs. All of these initiatives come as part of the government's keenness on the provision of dignified livelihood and enabling individuals to develop their capabilities as effective, productive members of the community. Mohammed Ensour has expressed the UNCHR's readiness to provide various aspects of technical support to Bahrain in various fields of human rights.
