Kyrgyzstan receives equipment for improvement of locust management

Bishkek, July 6, 2022. / Kabar /. The Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection and Quarantine under the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan received tractors, tablets, protective equipment and training aids as part of the FAO Project for Improvement of Locust Management, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic said. The Department, in particular, received 6 tractors, 20 tablets, 10 sprayers, 25 special overalls, 15 pairs of boots, 200 goggles, 200 respiratory masks, 40 pairs of aprons, 100 pairs of nitrile gloves, 1,100 books, 200 information posters and more. In her speech, UN FAO Deputy Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Dinara Rakhmanova noted the importance of the FAO Project on Improvement of Locust Management (Phase II), funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in the interests of Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries. An improved response mechanism to locust outbreaks using less toxic pesticides and biological pest control products has been introducing within the framework of the project. Efforts are aimed at ensuring food security and improving the well-being of the rural population of Kyrgyzstan by preventing threats and reducing damage from pest invasions.
