Kyrgyzstan observes day of mourning for compatriots killed in traffic accident in Russia

Bishkek, Aug. 23, 2022 / Kabar /. August 23 has been declared in Kyrgyzstan the day of mourning for the citizens of Kyrgyzstan who died as a result of a traffic accident in the Ulyanovsk region of Russia. As a result of an accident, 14 Kyrgyz citizens died. The state flags of the Kyrgyz Republic will be flown at half mast throughout the country, as well as on the buildings of diplomatic and consular offices abroad. Entertainment events and broadcasts have also been cancelled. Earlier, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov signed the Decree “On declaring August 23, 2022 as a day of national mourning in the Kyrgyz Republic”. The accident occurred on Aug. 21 at approximately 13:00 on the M-5 Ural highway in the Nikolayevsky district of the Ulyanovsk region. As a result of the accident, 16 people died and five more were injured. A truck driver did not brake in time and crashed into a minibus waiting for its turn to pass a road section under maintenance.
