Kyrgyz president: We must show determination in solving problem of external debt

Bishkek, June 30, 2022. / Kabar /. "We must show determination in solving the problem of external debt," President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said speaking in the Parliament. Addressing the deputies, the president noted that there is a big problem: the peak of payments on the country's external debt and finding sources of financing. “Fate decreed that this big problem fell on my term. According to previous data, this year we need to pay 23 billion soms on external debt, next year - 25 billion soms. Over the next 10 years, we will have to pay off the debts that we have accumulated in 30 years. If we don't pay, as we know, the country's independence will be in jeopardy. But while in power, we must make a promise to our people and show determination in dealing with such serious problems as external debt. Of course, I hope that we will resolve such serious issues with your support,” Zhaparov said. According to data of the Ministry of Finance, the public debt of Kyrgyzstan as of February 28, 2022 amounted to USD 5 billion 119.15 million. Of this amount, the domestic debt is USD 817.31 million, while external debt has reached USD 4 billion 301.84 million.
