Kyrgyz president receives UN Assistant Secretary General Mirjana Egger

Bishkek, June 17, 2021 . / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met with UN Assistant Secretary General, Assistant Administrator of the UN Development Program, Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent State (CIS) Mirjana Spoljaric Egger.
An exchange of views took place on topical issues of joint cooperation in a wide range of areas, the press service of the Kyrgyz president said.
Sadyr Zhaparov noted the significant contribution of the UN system to Kyrgyzstan's development, and expressed gratitude to the UN agencies for their activities in the country in the field of sustainable development and the humanitarian assistance provided to Batken Oblast.
The Kyrgyz leader stressed that Batken Oblast will be given a special status within the framework of the region's development program being drafted, and in this regard he noted the need to implement projects for the development of border areas in the long term.
He also proposed to jointly launch special and targeted projects for the development of border areas, noting the importance of improving the living conditions of residents living there.
The president emphasized the growing urgency of climate change issues in the world. He drew attention to the fact that Kyrgyzstan in the near future will make initiatives at UNESCO in the field of glacier conservation.
Mirjana Spoljaric Egger stressed the UN structures are studying the possibility of providing additional support to the residents of border regions of the country.
She noted with satisfaction the work to protect the rights of women and youth, highlighted their active role in the life of society. According to the UN Assistant Secretary General, Kyrgyzstan occupies a leading position among the countries of the region in this area.
In addition, Egger informed that currently a development program is being developed, which provides assistance to Kyrgyzstan.
