Kyrgyz, Kazakh heads of governments discuss implementation of previously reached agreements

Bishkek, June 16 2022. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov met on the sidelines of the Regional Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals in Almaty.
The head of the Cabinet noted the positive dynamics in the development of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations.
“The heads of state of the two countries set the task of bringing the level of trade between the two countries to USD 2 billion. This task is also reflected in the Protocol on the results of the 10th meeting of the Intergovernmental Council. We have every reason to increase bilateral trade. To do this, we need to revise our trade policy, remove the remaining issues that exist today in the field of trade and transit of goods. It is extremely important to create favorable conditions for the free movement of goods and services between our countries,” Akylbek Zhaparov said.
He also emphasized the need to work out in an enhanced mode the regulatory legal framework on the construction of an industrial trade and logistics complex in the area of the Ak-Tilek and Karasu road checkpoints. “In accordance with the agreements reached by the heads of state, it is important for us that this complex is fully operational within a maximum of three years,” the head of the Cabinet added.
Alikhan Smailov, in turn, confirmed the importance of implementing the above priority areas of bilateral cooperation.
The sides discussed topical aspects of bilateral cooperation, as well as issues of implementing the agreements reached following the 10th meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council and the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to the Kyrgyz Republic.
