Kendari Preserves Mangrove Forest As Natural Lab

KENDARI, SE Sulawesi, March 13 (Antara) - The Kendari city government in Southeast Sulawesi Province is making every effort to preserve mangrove forests as the laboratory of nature, according to the mayor of Kendari, Asrun. "Mangrove trees are not foreign to our lives. Mangrove has a lot of benefits as the environmental balance and a natural laboratory. Therefore let us continue to preserve these mangrove forests," Asrun remarked here on Saturday. According to him, mangrove forests are spread in a number of areas in the city of Kendari, among others, in the villages of Bungkutoko, Tondonggeu, and Sambuli, Purirano, Korumba, Lahundape, and Anggoeya. "Like in Bungkutoko and Lahundape, the mangrove forests in other area will be developed into mangrove trekking area as as educational tourism," Asrun said. Further, he noted all the mangrove forests along the coast of Kendari will be preserved because they have a lot of benefits for humans and the environment.
