Kazakhstan marks 20th anniversary of independence

Kazakhstan, Astana, Dec.16 / Trend K. Konyrova / The Independence Day is celebrated in Kazakhstan on Friday, Dec.16. The Supreme Council of Kazakhstan adopted a law on independence and state sovereignty of the republic on Dec.16, 1991. After the collapse of the USSR the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic was the last of the Soviet republics that declared its state sovereignty. Independence Arch has been today opened in Astana. Traditionally mass street celebrations are underway in the country's towns and villages. Four days - Dec.16, 17, 18 and 19 are announced as days off in Kazakhstan in connection with the Independence Day.
