Kazakh Senate adopts law to open UN office

Kazakhstan, Astana, Jan.18 / Trend L. Podolyak / The Senate (upper house) of the Kazakh Parliament at its plenary meeting adopted the Law on ratification of Agreement between the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to open the UN office in Kazakhstan. The Agreement was signed on Oct. 5, 1992 in New York and entered into force upon signature. "According to Article 5 of the Agreement, the UN opens and maintains its office in Kazakhstan to fulfill its assumed obligations under the Agreement," Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Kairat Omarov said. The agreement envisages that the office and its staff, and members of their families will take advantage of immunities and privileges in taxation, prosecution and protection of their property.
