Kazakh Embassy in US: FBI may be involved in investigation of Zhanaozen events

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 28 / Trend / Kazakh Embassy in the U.S. does not exclude the possibility of involvement of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the investigation of the riots in the Zhanaozen city, the embassy's website reported. "It is not excluded that FBI experts will participate in investigation of the Zhanaozen events at Kazakhstan's invitation," Ambassador Erlan Idrissov's statement says. He also said that Prime Minister's press service has organized a tour of well-known Kazakh bloggers to Zhanaozen. The bloggers have been holding meetings with the eye-witnesses, government officials, physicians and many other people in western Kazakhstan since Dec.24. "The bloggers' tour was organized so that observers could report objective information about the Zhanaozen events in real time. Some false information were spread initially by supporters of the riots," the statement says. Mass disorders hit the Kazakh oil town of Zhanaozen in the Mangistau region on Dec.16 which killed 15 and injured about 100 people. President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree to impose a state of emergency in the region from Dec. 17 to Jan. 5. Do you have any feedback? Contact our journalist at agency@trend.az
