Judicial and Legal Studies Institute holds workshop

Manama, Nov.29 (BNA): The Judicial and Legal Studies Institute (JLSI) held a key workshop on the rights and guarantees of the defendants in the pre-trial stage. Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa attended the event, along with judges representing the criminal courts and the Public Prosecution. Supreme Judicial Council Chairman, former Egyptian Court of Cassation President Dr. Sari Mahmoud Seyam conducted the workshop which focused particularly on the inmates' substantive and procedural rights as well as the enforcement of the relevant international standards. Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al-Buainain patronised the workshop which raised key contentious issues resulting from remand, deemed the most dangerous type of compromising personal freedom. The workshop is part of the JLSI strategy to develop human resources, diversify training programmes and enhance the competence of the judicial and legal system.
