Joint Statement on Libya's Prime Minister Visit to Qatar

Doha, January 16 (QNA) - At an invitation by Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani, Libya's Prime Minister Mr.Ali Zaidan Mohammad paid an official visit to the State of Qatar from January 14 to 16,2013, accompanied by a high level delegation. During the visit, the Libyan Premier met with HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani where he conveyed to Their Highnesses greetings of the Libyan people and the greetings of the Libyan National Congress President Muhammad Yusuf Maqrif. The Libyan Premier Ali Zaidan Mohammad also held talks with Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani during which he expressed thanks and appreciation of the Libyan people for the financial, humanitarian, security, military and logistics aid provided by the State of Qatar during the period of the liberation of Libya, which have had a significant impact in supporting the revolution of February 17th and its success on the Arab and international levels. He also reaffirmed the special ties between Libya and Qatar, emphasizing that these ties must be based on objective evaluation and a vision for future that takes into account the interest of the two countries' peoples. The two sides reviewed the ties of cooperation and ways of boosting them in various fields. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both sides agreed to review and re-read all the signed agreements, and to complete procedures for the agreements that have not been signed in accordance with a comprehensive vision that meets the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples. They stressed on the need to develop a program for technical cooperation. In this regard, the State of Qatar expressed willingness to train Libyan cadres in various fields according to a program to be agreed upon between the two sides. Both sides expressed readiness to activate all files related to human development between different sectors. They expressed satisfaction over the good results achieved in this visit in term of strengthening bilateral relations, especially as the two countries have great potential in economic and investment fields among others. Both sides underlined that it was important to continue to strengthen and intensify security and military cooperation, including the exchange of experience and information and the provision of specialized academic and technical training as well as logistical support in order to enhance the efficiency of the security and military agencies. The two sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and ways of further developing and strengthening them particularly in investment, financial, economic, trade, energy, air transport, telecommunications and information technology, human development and social affairs domains. The two sides agreed to activate the joint committee between the two countries headed by the foreign ministers of the two countries and hold its second session in Doha, to be rescheduled through diplomatic channels. The two sides decided to form a mechanism for political consultation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, and work to coordinate their positions in regional and international forums, especially in the Middle East. At the conclusion of the talks session, Libya's Prime Minister Ali Zaidan Mohammad expressed his deep thanks and appreciation to Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani for the warm reception and generous hospitality given to him and his accompanying delegation during their stay in the State of Qatar.(END)
