Japan Presents Humanitarian Aid To Aceh Quake Victims
JAKARTA, Dec 16 (Antara) - The Japanese government on the sidelines of World Tsunami Day here on Thursday provided humanitarian aid to earthquake victims in Pidie Jaya District, Aceh Province.
The humanitarian aid comprised 500 tents, given symbolically by the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Tanizaki Yasuaki, to Dody Ruswandi, the secretary of the National Agency for Disaster Management.
Other forms of humanitarian aid for the quake victims in Aceh were presented by Japanese Lower House Member Fukui Teru to the Ministry of Social Affairs in the presence of Vice President Jusuf Kalla.
"I would like to extend my gratitude to the Japanese government for the aid presented for the benefit of the quake victims," Kalla stated.
The Japanese government's humanitarian aid was provided through the Japan International Cooperation Agency at the request of the Indonesian government.
According to Fukui, the Japanese government was very appreciative of and always upholds its friendly relationship with Indonesia, so it is natural for the country to help the disaster victims in Aceh.
After attending a series of events for World Tsunami Day in Jakarta, the member of the Liberal Democratic Party in Japan planned to visit facilities related to the prevention and mitigation of disasters in Aceh.
Before heading to Aceh, Fukui is scheduled to make a pilgrimage to the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta to plant trees.
