Iraq, Qatar Sign MoU In Doha To Enhance Security Cooperation
BAGHDAD, IRAQ (NINA) - Iraq and Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Doha today to boost security cooperation.
"Maj. Gen. Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, director-general of the Qatari public security, and Major General Maher Najm Abdul-Hussein, undersecretary of the interior ministry for intelligence and federal investigations, signed a memorandum of understanding in the presence of a number of security leaders in the two countries," Qatari Al-Sharq newspaper reported.
"The MoU between the Qatari Ministry of the Interior and its Iraqi counterpart aims at further joint security cooperation and regulates the coordination process between the two countries, as well as the exchange of information and experience, as Iraq accumulates experience in the security field," the newspaper quoted Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi as saying. As well as benefit from Qatari experiences in the use of modern technology in this area. "
He explained in a press statement after the signing that the memorandum of understanding includes most areas, especially in the field of training and exchange of information in the field of combating terrorism and its financing, combating counterfeiting, organized crime, combating drugs, human trafficking, smuggling of all kinds, money laundering and security of ports and airports.
The Director General of the General Security of Qatar stressed that the two parties intend to form a joint committee of the two sides of specialists to follow up the implementation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding, praising the close cooperation between the two countries in all fields.
For his part, Undersecretary of the Ministry of the Interior for Federal Intelligence and Investigations said that the memorandum of understanding between the Ministries of Interior of both countries opens a new horizon for security cooperation to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
He said that the memorandum of understanding covers a number of security areas, including combating terrorism and organized crime in all its forms and exchanging information, experiences and others, indicating that a joint committee will be formed to activate this cooperation.
The Qatari and Iraqi sides had held, prior to the signing of the memorandum of understanding, a session of discussions to discuss aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the security areas and ways to strengthen and develop them./ End
