Investment forum opens in Ashgabat

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, October 17 /Trend H.Hasanov/ The Fourth International Investment Forum of Turkmenistan has opened today in Ashgabat. It will continue until Oct 19, an official Turkmen source said on Wednesday. Potential investors and heads of foreign and international companies plan to hold talks with government representatives, ministries, agencies and local business within the forum. The forum will address the challenges of modernization and technological upgrading of the domestic economy, the strengthening of its competitiveness, implementation of promising projects and initiatives to strengthen the investment potential of the country. "Attracting investment to the real sector of the economy plays an important role in the development of the economy," a statement said. Last year the forum brought together more than 330 participants, including 120 foreign delegates and representatives of the business circles from 20 countries in Ashgabat. Experts and representatives of the international banks, investment funds and financial corporations, economic missions and UN agencies, the OSCE, the ECO were invited to participate in the event. Additionally, the role of financial and banking institutions in the formation of investment capital was discussed, issues of export, fiscal and monetary policy were raised, and support of non-state sector, the legal aspects of foreign trade and investment was also covered.
